10,000 more car owners issued 'do not drive' warning over serious safety issue

The warning is to do with the airbag systems in these vehicles, which could be faulty - here is everything you need to know, including a full list of affected cars

At least another 10,000 cars have been recalled in the UK - with drivers warned “do not drive” following serious safety concerns.

Back in June, an urgent “stop drive” order was issued for certain Citroen and DS vehicles. But now, parent company Stellantis has included more cars as also being unsafe to drive.

The warning is to do with the Takata airbag systems in these vehicles, which could be faulty. It comes after a woman sustained fatal injuries caused by an airbag in a 2014 Citroen C3 in Reims, France, last year. No drivers have been hurt in the UK.

The updated list of recalled vehicles are:

  • NEW. Citroen C4 models manufactured between at least 2010 and 2013.
  • NEW. Citroen DS 4 models manufactured between at least 2010 and 2013
  • NEW. Citroen DS 5 models manufactured between at least 2010 and 2015.
  • NEW. Citroen C Zero models manufactured between at least 2010 and 2017.
  • NEW. DS Automobiles DS 4 models manufactured between at least 2010 and 2017
  • NEW. DS Automobiles DS 5 models manufactured between at least 2010 and 2018.
  • Citroen C3 second-generation models manufactured between at least 2009 and 2017.
  • Citroen DS 3 models manufactured between at least 2009 and 2019.
  • DS Automobiles DS 3 models manufactured between at least 2008 and 2019.

If you have one of these affected cars, you should be contacted by letter and Stellantis will arrange to get your vehicle fixed, at no charge.

Stellantis expects most affected vehicles to be fixed by early October. You can check if your car is part of the recall by using the VIN check tool on the Citroen website.

The car manufacturer said in a recent statement: “Stellantis UK is mobilising its full network of suppliers, retailers and manufacturing plant to support this action to ensure the fastest, safest and most convenient solution for each customer.

“Stellantis remains fully committed to acting swiftly, transparently, and responsibly in addressing this issue.”

In a recall notice published online, Stellantis said: “Recall decisions, especially stop-drive actions, are based on multiple factors, including airbag specifications, vehicle age and usage, climate conditions, and notifications from regulatory authorities.

“Whilst there have been no reported instances in the UK, Stellantis has decided to deploy a stop-drive order for all impacted vehicles across Europe including the UK. This decision underscores the Company’s unwavering commitment to customer safety.
