This is the dramatic moment armed police swoop in on the synagogue's terrorist home in Manchester.
Video shows the counter-terror unit carrying a chainsaw as they stormed 35-year-old Jihad Al-Shamie's semi-detached property nearly seven hours after the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue attack.
Al-Shamie was named as the terrorist responsible for ramming his vehicle into bystanders before launching a knife attack on worshippers at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue in Crumpsall. He was fatally shot within seven minutes of the initial emergency call to police.
Adrian Daulby, 53, and 66-year-old Melvin Cravitz were tragically killed, while three others are in hospital with serious injuries. The attack happened as worshippers gathered at the synagogue on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar. Police today revealed one of those who died had been shot by their officers.
One eyewitness watched as armed officers stormed the suspect’s home in Prestwich, Manchester following the horrific attack.
The man, 35, who did not want to be named, said: “I was stood there visiting my mum who lives opposite. There were all these guys in black with gun and they ran in.
“They were shouting the usual, ‘Get down, get down’. But I couldn’t see inside. They were there for ages.”
Meanwhile, a woman, 35, said: “I was working at my desk and they just pulled up outside with dogs and guns. They didn’t say anything, they were very, very quiet. There were marked cars and also a van.
“Obviously I thought, ‘that’s unusual’. It was just immediately after they declared it a terror attack.”
Another neighbour, 32, said she watched from her desk as armed cops and dogs arrived at around 4.18pm yesterday.
Greater Manchester Police revealed earlier Jihad Al-Shamie was a British citizen of Syrian descent, who is understood to have entered the UK as a small child. He was granted British citizenship in 2006 aged around 16, reports say.
He appears to have lived in Prestwich, around two miles from the scene and his name is linked to a property in the town.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed three people had been arrested as part of the investigation and declared it a "terrorist incident".
Two men, aged in their 30s and a woman in her 60s were apprehended on suspicion of commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terror connected to the synagogue attack.
The family of Adrian Daulby today said they were "heartbroken" by his brutal death.
In a statement on Facebook, his niece, Demi, 30, said: "As Adrian’s family, we are heartbroken by his passing.
"We kindly ask for privacy at this time as we grieve and seek the answers we need. Thank you for your understanding and respect."
Others described him as a "beautiful soul". Sarah Smethurst posted: "Sorry for your loss he was the most kindest man and took on my children as he did the rest what a beautiful soul he was and will be sadly missed."
Keir Starmer has promised to deploy extra police to synagogues across the UK, and revealed "additional police assets" were being rolled out to "do everything to keep our Jewish community safe."
