'I put my Christmas tree up in October and have three-word response to haters'

A woman shared the reply she gives to haters who think she's putting her Christmas tree up too early, ignoring the naysayers and doing what truly makes her happy

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas (for some people), as they've totally skipped out on Halloween and are already en route to the most wonderful time of the year. Christmas may still be 83 days away, but this isn't stopping people from whacking out the tinsel and decking the halls with boughs of holly - and of course, most importantly, putting their beloved tree up (which we have to assume isn't real).

Kate, who posts on TikTok as @katesmyname123, shared she has one reply when the haters criticise her for loving Christmas so much, saying people need to "embrace happiness" more.

She captioned her video: "Do whatever makes you happy, you get one life, live it," followed by a peace sign emoji to let people know she's unfazed by the naysayers.

Over the top of her seven-second clip, she wrote: "'Just be yourself'. Well, I did, and now my Christmas tree is up."

She then moved the camera from the floor up to her silver and white-decorated Christmas tree, which was adorned with snowflakes, angel wings, silver presents, and numerous other decorations.

It looked truly gorgeous, and even John Lewis got in on the action to complement how lovely her tree looks - and if it makes her happy, why not?

"Honestly, we couldn’t love this more for you," the social media team at John Lewis wrote.

Kate responded: "But do you love it as much as I love the John Lewis Christmas adverts? Hope you’ve got Christmas stuff in store, I’m coming to see you tomorrow!"

One woman wrote: "No idea where mine is going. Between my baby who will be crawling around, and three dogs, I have no faith it will stay up!"

Kate joked: "Get it up now, and then you’ve got 3 months to work it out?" followed by an eyes emoji.

"Tell my husband this please," someone else begged Kate, as she wanted to put the decorations up already, but he wasn't best pleased with the idea.

Another shared she'd be putting up her "Halloween tree" first, and then her Christmas one on November 1.

When 'should' you put your Christmas tree up?

Tradition dictates that decorations should go up on the first day of Advent, the fourth Sunday before Christmas Day.

In 2025, this means your decorations can go up on Sunday, November 30.

However, psychologists, time-management experts and a tree expert had differing views as to when people should get that tree up – and it turns out there are advantages to decorating both early and late. When Axios did a poll of its readership it found in the UK, trees can be spotted just after Halloween.

According to Yahoo Life, Professor Suzanne Degges-White, PhD said putting the Christmas tree up early is "good for the soul". "When we decorate earlier and at a more leisurely pace, we can fully immerse ourselves in a restorative experience which, after all, only comes once a year," she said.
