Tesco shopper 'needs to sell a kidney' after seeing price of lamb in store

One Tesco shopper shared the eye-watering price they saw a whole leg of lamb price at in the store as they quipped they'd 'need to sell a kidney' to be able to afford it

Many people have noticed the price of food seems to be going up very regularly in supermarkets as the cost of living crisis continues in the UK. And one Tesco shopper was left gobsmacked after seeing how much a leg of lamb cost on their recent trip to the store.

The shopper took to Facebook to share the eye-watering price as they quipped they'd "need to sell a kidney" to afford it. However, some people argued they were getting quite a lot for their money. The customer, named Joanne, posted a photo of her holding the whole lamb leg from Tesco, which weighed 3.2kg and cost £50.29.

Overlay text over the photo read: "What in the... Gonna need to sell a kidney is going on here?"

The post went viral, racking up 1,500 likes as many took to the comment section to have their say.

One person joked: "Do you get the arm with the leg," while another added: "The price of meat nowadays is appalling."

Someone else chimed in: "It shocked me the other day that beef mince is like nearly £6 now. Madness."

However, another person argued: "That is a massive leg though, to be fair." While another echoed: "That's 7lbs, I can kinda get it, still expensive."

A representative for Tesco has been contacted for comment.

The post comes after another Tesco shopper also recently was stunned by how much 'everyday items' now cost in the store.

Charlotte Deering, known as @themoneyferret on Instagram, often shares advice on how to 'live well for less' with her 126,000 followers on the app.

However, in a recent reel, the money-saving enthusiast expressed her astonishment at the significant price hike of certain items in supermarkets.

This included Kenco coffee being priced at £8.35, Tesco's own Extra Virgin Olive Oil costing £5.55 for a small bottle and Heinz Tomato Ketchup now costing £3.65.
